Esztergom Trip - Erasmus & International by ELB / 21st February

Erasmus Life Budapest presents: a day-trip to the amazing, historical Hungarian town at the Northern border of the country: Esztergom! Only 1 hour from Budapest, it's a can't miss to visit this beauty.

🏰 Esztergom was the old capital of Hungary from the 10th till the mid-13th century when King Béla IV moved the royal seat to Buda. The 1st Hungarian King, St. Stephen was also crowned here in 1000 AD. Now, the city lies on the border of Slovakia, along the river Danube. The most monumental construction of Hungarian Classicism, the Basilica, silently rules the landscape above the winding Danube, surrounded by mountains. On the opposite side of the river lies Párkány, a little town providing excellent views of the Basilica from the Slovakian side.

📆 21st of February, Saturday 🕖 MEETING TIME: 08:30 📍 MEETING POINT is at Nyugati Railway station

► PROGRAM 8:30 AM Meeting at Nyugati railway station in front of the entrance. Search for the ELB crew. 🚄 We are taking the train to get to Esztergom in 1 hour. ⛪ After discovering the old town and some nice views, we will visit the beautiful Basilica. 🏰 Then, we go to the castle and learn in a fun way about the rich history of the town (optional) 🍔 We will also have yummy lunch: pulled pork burger, or vegan tortilla! 🌉 Let's continue with a walk to the bridge that leads to Slovakia, the town of Párkány (Sturovo), with a great view on the basilica, and taste some good local beers.* We will arrive back to Budapest by around 19:30.

🔹The Country Pass for students costs only 1890 HUF (approx. 4,75€) for a whole month. It can be used by students with a Hungarian student ID card. You can apply for a temporary student card at the student office of your Hungarian university, which is required for the country pass. All travel fees, guided tour, basilica entrance, and a yummy pulled pork burger or a vegan tortilla included in the price 😁 You need to bring your students card, the entry fees are calculated with that.
