Our comedy’s hero doesn’t know the first thing about art. A former nightclub bouncer, Dave unexpectedly lands a job as a security guard at a contemporary art gallery, where he’s assigned to protect a controversial artwork. The piece measures 3 metres high by 1.6 metres wide and… well, let’s just say it was created using a rather unusual technique. Some people find it offensive, and it’s open to countless interpretations. But Dave’s opinion of art—and of this particular painting—gradually begins to change. Before long, he is passionately defending the artwork against his wife, the media, and a growing crowd of outraged religious fanatics.
Packed with comic situations, colourful characters, and unexpected twists, the story eventually reaches a breaking point, and Dave finds himself facing a whole new set of problems from the most unexpected direction.
World-renowned author Nick Hornby’s short story has been adapted into a site-specific theatre production directed by Géza Bodor, with Scott Alexander Young, as Dave.
