After Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Lippstadt, Hameln, Vicenza, Padua, Venice, Worms, Fürth, Sardinia and Vienna, the highly successful production FRIDA is now coming to Graz!
Frida Kahlo, the world-renowned painter of the 20th century, had Hungarian roots on her father’s side, yet she is primarily known for her Mexican heritage. She is a cultural icon who continues to inspire people across the world, many of whom feel a deep personal connection to her. Her life was marked by challenges and tragedies, yet it offers powerful lessons about love, strength, and faith in life.
The performance draws on the rich expressive power of music and dance, creating vivid imagery that evokes the atmosphere of exotic Mexico. It recalls the world of magical Mexico, passionate love affairs, a striking culture, and defining moments from Frida’s life. Rather than telling her life story, the production presents an independent dance piece inspired by her artistic works. It reveals a colorful and vibrant world that stands apart from the ordinary. The choreography is enhanced by spectacular scenes incorporating circus elements, expressing the joy of life and the unique character of Mexican culture.
Our aim is to honor the intellectual legacy of this extraordinary artist while preserving both the turning points of her life and the magical power of her remarkable paintings. The result is a production that is both entertaining and deeply moving.
